Taking the LNAT is a key step towards realising your goal of becoming a lawyer/solicitor or pursuing a career in the legal field. Law is an exciting field with many opportunities, but to secure a position at top firms, a highly regarded degree is essential. This process can feel overwhelming, and many students are unsure how to create a standout application.
You can get your preparation off on the right foot by downloading our LNAT Preparation Handbook. Our handbook guides you through the basics of the LNAT, provides actionable tips to help you succeed and includes a full practice question and example essay.
The Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT) is an aptitude exam, not a test of legal knowledge, used by various UK universities for their law courses. Taken on a computer, it helps universities assess candidates' reasoning abilities, comprehension of text, and writing skills, often as part of the shortlisting process before interviews.
Section A: This section consists of 12 text passages, each followed by three or four multiple-choice questions. In total, you’ll need to answer 42 questions within 95 minutes.
Section B: This section requires you to write an essay in response to one of three prompts covering various topics. You will have 40 minutes to complete it. It assesses your ability to construct a coherent and persuasive argument, a crucial skill for a career in law.
Preparing for the LNAT, like any exam, is crucial to achieving a strong score and securing your place to study Law. While there are no past papers, specimen papers are available to help you practice. Unlike traditional exams, the LNAT is an aptitude test focused on assessing skills like critical thinking and your ability to build compelling arguments. Starting your preparation early is essential to maximize your chances of success.
Given that the LNAT differs from typical exams, it requires a tailored approach to preparation. This is where UniAdmissions can help. We specialise in guiding students through the LNAT with a range of tailored programmes designed to rapidly boost your score. Additionally, we offer a wealth of free resources in our LNAT guides and our free LNAT Preparation Handbook to further support your preparation.

Over the past three years, we have been able to secure offers for 68% of students who enroled with us on our Oxbridge Law Programme. The Standard Law Programme has achieved a success rate of 75% for students applying to non-Oxbridge universities.

First and foremost, we assess whether the potential student has the right academic capabilities and profile to be realistically accepted to study at Oxford or Cambridge.
Firstly, we assess the student’s academic profile to determine whether they are a realistic applicant to study Law.
Secondly, we assess whether the student is willing and able to put the time and effort required in order to create a winning application for Law.
Finally, we assess the student’s reasoning behind why they want to study Law at university. This is a vitally important consideration, and one that all Law universities take seriously when choosing candidates at the interview stage.
Our Law tutors are all highly accomplished students from Oxford and Cambridge. Each of our tutors has scored in the top 10% for their particular admissions cycle, so they are truly the best of the best. You can read more about our tutors here.
